This patient was a 69-year-old woman who suffered from visual field defects due to age-related macular degeneration, with a significant defect in the inferior medial aspect of her left eye. After a period of ineffective treatment, she sought further treatment from a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for second opinion. Following two weeks of TCM eye acupuncture treatment, the condition of macular folds improved, and the visual field defect significantly decreased. Age-related macular degeneration still presents many challenges in clinical treatment. This case demonstrates a good therapeutic effect achieved through a combination of TCM eye acupuncture and Western medicine. The integration of TCM and Western medicine is a future trend in various fields, and ophthalmology is an important part of this trend. This case is offered for reference by the medical community.
