A 64-year-old female was diagnosed as asthma about 9 years ago (2007) and began to use bronchodilator. After she suffered from pneumonia 7 years ago (2009), the frequency of asthma-related symptoms increased gradually. 10 days ago, she came to Chinese Medicine Department of Chia-yi Christian Hospital because of intensified cough with sputum, dyspnea, nasal allergy. She Gan Man Huang Tang is often used to treat clinical asthma-related symptoms such as wheezing or cough. The patient was prescribed She Gan Man Huang Tang. After 2 weeks’ treatment, the patient’s asthma-related symptoms were decreased significantly. Therefore, I take further study of the mechanism of She Gan Man Huang Tang in treating asthma-related symptoms and the reason that asthma often aggravates at night.
