Colorectal cancer ranks third in cancer mortality in Taiwan. Although the treatment of colorectal cancer has been improved, the side effects have deeply troubled patients.
This case is a 38-year-old male with stage IV colon cancer with peritoneal and liver metastases. Since the tumor cannot be surgically removed, he received hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), FOLFIRI chemotherapy (Folinic acid, 5-FU, Irinotecan) and Cetuximab for targeted therapy. After above therapies, intestinal obstruction occurred seriously affected the quality of life. So he asked for acupuncture.
After receiving acupuncture at Zusanli, Shangjuxu and Xiajuxu, his digestive symptoms and quality of life improved. We demonstrate that acupuncture can alleviate the side effects after the treatment of stage IV colon cancer.
