Taiwan have very high rates of hepatitis and the inflammation and damage can cause fibrosis, which eventually can lead to cirrhosis. Traditional Chinese medicine is commonly used in treating liver diseases. It is important that the challenge to find effective components in traditional chinese medical. By using the technology of natural medicine and molecular biology, the ingredients of natural medicine can be selected in curing heptitis. In this paper, we discuss the common causes of hepatitis treatment in Western and Chinese medicine. Also,we review several research papers about mechanisms of Chinese herbal medicines used in treatment of hepatitis, such as Salvia, Astragalus, rhubarb and skullcap. All of them can be anti-hepatitis virus by different mechanisms to inhibit viral transfer, such as inhibition of viral replication, control apoptosis, boost the immune system to achieve a therapeutic effect,and individually may have the effects of improving liver function, hepatic fibrosis for treating heptitis.
